In May 2012, Aporia produced a new translation of WOYZECK by Sarah Wansley with original music by David Marenberg. Germany,1836. At the age of 23, Georg Büchner begins a haunting new play based on a real murder in the German countryside, but dies before he can finish the script. Aporia Theater rediscovers the first modern drama, WOYZECK – a man’s struggle between love and betrayal, reality and dream.
Rick Hardon, Private Dick
Written by company member Jake Green and directed by Sam Reisman. An "authentic" 1930′s serialized radio drama starring Rick Hardon, a pulp magazine character in the mold of The Shadow and Doc Savage, that charts the absurd exploits of the cocksure, chauvinistic private detective after a mysterious, axe-wielding attacker parts Rick from his pink prized possession and sends him spiraling into a crisis of gender/identity confusion. Part comic book adventure, part B-movie exploitation film, Rick’s quest for revenge leads to a shocking revelation that transforms him into a vigilante hero, but is it for the right reasons? Contending with a too-large-for-TV cast of characters that includes wise-guys, gangsters, mad scientists, and fast-talking dames and fellas, Rick must cope with changes within and without himself as he tries to discover what it means to be a man in the twentieth century. New World Stages, Time Out NY Lounge, October 22-23, 2011 Complete audio recording available online
